Butterworth man hands himself in after shooting dead two men and wounding another

A 40 year-old Butterworth man is expected in court soon after he handed himself to police after he allegedly shot dead two men and wounded another early on Sunday morning at Zitulele Township, Butterworth.

According to Butterworth police, the suspect and the deceased were at a tavern at Zitulele Township when the incident occurred.

“The deceased had parked their car in the middle of the road and the suspect wanted the deceased to move their car so that he could drive where the deceased’s car was parked,” said Captain Jackson Manatha, adding; “It is not clear at this point in time what transpired as the suspect drew his firearm and shot the deceased."

It is alleged that the two deceased men died on the spot at about 03:30 and the third man, also shot by the suspect, was rushed to East London hospital in a very critical condition.

“The firearm of the suspect was licensed and the identities of both deceased men, aged 24 and 29 years old, are still being withheld pending notification of their next of kin,” said Manatha

“The suspect has been charged with two murders and attempted murder. He will appear before the Butterworth Magistrate's Court soon.”
