Butterworth man slapped with 18-year jail sentence for raping 11-year-old

A 47-year-old Butterworth man, Luvuyo Sitiyana, was this week convicted and sentenced to 18 years behind bars for rape by the Butterworth Regional Court.

"The accused was found guilty of raping an 11-year-old girl on 04 November 2014, at about 10:00, at Qina Location, Mpeta Village, Ngqamakhwe," said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

"It is alleged that the accused was driving a wheelbarrow on the date in question.

"He gave lift to the victim and drove her to an unused house. Once they were in the house, he raped the victim."

Captain Manatha said that a case of rape was registered at Ngqamakhwe Police Station.

The Butterworth Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) took over the case for further investigation. FCS Unit successfully traced and arrested the accused.
