Butterworth police seek public’s assistance in identifying body of hit-and-run victim


Butterworth police are appealing for the public’s assistance in identifying the body of a man, who was found lying injured next to the road along Mthatha Street, in Butterworth, on Friday night by officers on patrol at about 23:30pm.

According to the police, the man was rushed to Butterworth Hospital; where he was confirmed dead upon arrival by the ambulance staff due to his injuries.

“The deceased had sustained upper body injuries. Police suspect that the deceased was hit by a motor vehicle that never stopped after the accident,” police said in a statement.

On Monday morning police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manana told RNews that the deceased had still not yet been identified.

Butterworth police are appealing to any family in the area whose male relative has not come back home since Friday to contact them on 047 401 1100 to assist in identifying the body.
