A 51 year-old Ngqamakhwe Junior Secondary School principal is expected in court again on Tuesday for allegedly repeatedly raping a 13 year-old learner at his school.

The accused was arrested on the 27th of July 2016, by the Butterworth Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual offences Unit (FCS) after a case of rape was opened by the victim’s family, who discovered the crime.

“The victim’s family noticed that her behaviour had changed and when she was asked about it, she broke the silence and revealed that she had been raped by the accused from March till July 2016,” said Butterworth police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

The Principal first appeared before the Ngqamakhwe Magistrate Court on the 10th of August and was remanded in custody to allow for further investigations.

He appeared again in court on the 17th of August and his case was again postponed for further investigations on bail proceedings.

“The case was postponed to Tuesday to proceed with judgement on his bail application,” said Captain Mantha.

The trial continues.
