Butterworth woman makes brief court appearance after stepdad’s murder


A 25 year-old woman from Butterworth made a brief appearance before the town’s Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday after she was arrested on Monday by Msobomvu Police for the alleged murder of her stepfather.

The accused, Vuyiswa Tuwe, has not been asked to plead by the court yet.

The case was postponed to Monday to allow for further investigation, while the Tuwe remains in custody.

The incident happened at their home at the town’s Madiba Informal Settlement.

According to the Eastern Cape police, a quarrel allegedly broke out between the two after the 49 year- old stepfather had switched off the stove that the suspect was using.

Following the dispute, the suspect allegedly stabbed her stepfather to death with a kitchen knife on his upper body.

The suspect was arrested on the spot and faces a charge on murder.
