CDC alerts stakeholders and suppliers to be vigilant of email scams

BY SUPPLIED - MAY 26, 2015

The Coega Development Corporation (CDC) is alerting stakeholders and suppliers against a possible tender scam going out under the CDC’s name.

An email was received by a CDC supplier earlier this week – ostensibly from the CDC – inviting them to bid for tenders.

“We ask our stakeholders and suppliers to remain vigilant against scams. CDC never solicits tenders directly with the suppliers. This is not CDC procedure,” said Dr Ayanda Vilakazi, CDC head of marketing and communications.

CDC tenders are advertised in newspapers and in CDC website, www.coega.com, stipulating details of where to collect the documents and submission details. Telegraphic, telexed, facsimiled or e-mail submissions are not accepted.

According to Symantec, a global cyber security firm, the  Internet Security Threat Report revealed a massive 92% increase in targeted global online attacks in 2013. South Africa has been ranked as the third leading cyber-crime hotspot in the world, according to the Norton Cybercrime Report 2013.
