Centane teen due in court for raping 85 year-old woman


A 18 year-old Centane man is expected to appear before the Centane Magistrate Court on Monday for raping an 85 year-old woman at Tyisholo Locality, Qombolo Village, Centane.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, the victim was alone at her home when she was accosted and allegedly raped by the suspect on Friday, at about 05:45.

However, she opened the case on Saturday.

“It is not clear where the suspect was coming from at the time, but the victim managed to identify him because they lived in the same village,” said Captain Manatha.

The suspect was arrested on Saturday at his home.

Butterworth Cluster Commander, Brigadier Stanley Sibidla, condemned the alleged rape of the granny and vowed that Butterworth Cluster Police will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that justice is done.

In an unrelated incident, Butterworth police arrested a 37 year-old man for the alleged rape of his 26 year-old girlfriend on Saturday night, at his shack at Skiet Informal Settlements, Butterworth.

It is alleged that the suspect accused his girlfriend of cheating and allegedly raped the victim.

A case of rape was opened at Butterworth police station and the suspect is expected to appear before the Butterworth Magistrate Court on Monday, facing a charge of rape.
