Centane teenager arrested for killing mum for protecting daughter

Eastern Cape police on Monday said that they arrested a 19-year-old suspect from Centane, Lihle Ncaphayi, for the murder of a 45-year-old woman in his village. 

According to the police; "A 19-year-old woman was asleep in her room at Thembeni Location Qhina Village in Centane, while her 45 year old mother was sleeping in a different room within the same house on Saturday, 15 August.

"It was at about 21:00 that the 19-year-old girl felt the door of her room being banged and kicked open. She cried very loud and her mother came to her rescue."

Police said the mother was stabbed by Ncaphayi several times on her upper body and she died on the spot.

"The 19-year-old daughter was also stabbed on her upper body but survived. The suspect run and the 19-year-old daughter got a chance of contacting their neighbours who rushed her to the hospital."

Ncaphayi was arrested on las week Wednesday on a charge of murder and attempted murder and appeared before the Centane Magistrates' Court on Friday.

"His case was remanded to Tuesday 01 September 2015 for further investigation.

"The deceased was identified as Vivian Mandisa Madywathi aged 45. It could not be established if her 19-year-old daughter has been discharged from hospital," police said.
