Central to St Francis Bay: Great value for money at Intlabathi Lodge

BY GRAEME LUND - JULY 21, 2015

St Francis Bay remains one of my favourite getaway destinations. Awesome beaches, great restaurants and a beautiful river – fishing, surfing, diving, boating – there is plenty to do in this town. I try to visit as often as I can and would do so more if I didn’t have budget constraints.

On a recent trip, I stayed at Intlabathi Lodge, along Diana Crescent. This guest house is so centrally situated that, once you have parked your car, you probably won’t need to use it again. The main beach is a five-minute walk away, as is the Spar, the Village and many of the best eateries and coffee shops.

Intlabathi Lodge is a typical old-style, thatched St Francis house with five guest rooms, all en-suite, as well as a swimming pool, communal outdoor braai and secure parking. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The whole atmosphere of the guest house is one of relaxation and holiday.

At R370 per person sharing, on a bed and breakfast basis, you will find it hard to beat in St Francis Bay price wise. Sure, there may be more lavish places to stay with more amenities, but I have yet to find a place that offers better value for money.

The breakfasts are great too, with fruit salad, yogurt, cereal and a cooked breakfast to fill your stomach for a day of fun. On request, the kitchen can also be made available for self-catering lunches and dinners.

If you are just looking to relax then Intlabathi Lodge is the perfect spot for you. The guest house has a thatched entertainment area next to the pool and the braai is big enough to make a roaring fire in winter or prepare a meal for a very large family. There is also a viewing platform with comfy chairs from where you can enjoy the ocean view with a cold one in hand.

Christy’s Catch, Trattoria San Francisco, Barrons Grill and The St Francis Brewing Co and Grill are an easy walk away. I can recommend all these restaurants.

If you pack up your car on a Friday afternoon and leave with only your clothes and toiletries, it’s no problem. The Spar is less than 500m away and so too is The Viking bakery and the St Francis Butchery.

Yip, Intlabathi Lodge will set the tone for your perfect weekend getaway and it will no doubt suit your budget.  See you there!
