Chabane crash: Case delayed till August

The Polokwane Magistrates Court has postponed the case of the truck driver, involved in the fatal accident of former Public Services Minister Collins Chabane and two members of his entourage, till August 18th.

According to News24, investigations were still being conducted into the crash between Mokopane and Polokwane with the defence team for Amukelani Rikhotso reportedly being unimpressed with the state’s recommendation to have the case put on hold for four months.

Rikhotso was released on R5 000 bail and charged with three counts of culpable homicide after Chabane’s Volkswagen Touareg smashed into his truck on the N1 in the early hours of March 15th.

He had been carrying out a U-turn when the Touareg slammed into the truck, ripping its roof clean off and instantly killing the Minister, driver Lesiba Sekele and bodyguard Lawrence Lentsoane.
