The Polokwane Magistrates Court has granted bail to the truck driver responsible for the accident that killed Public Service and Administration Minister, Collins Chabane, and two of his bodyguards near Polokwane two weeks ago.

Amukelani Rikhotso was released on R5 000 and the case postponed till May 15th. The 30-year old was charged with three counts of culpable homicide and one for alleged drunk driving, after Chabane’s Volkswagen Touareg smashed into his truck on the N1 between Polokwane and Mokopane in the early hours of Sunday morning March 15th.

Rikhotso reportedly tried to make a U-turn before the Touareg impacted the truck, ripping its front-end and roof off before smashing into a guardrail. Chabane along with driver Lesiba Sekele and Lawrence Lentsoane were killed on impact.
