Chabane crash: Truck driver’s bail to be contested

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has announced that it plans on contesting the bail of truck driver, Amukelani Rikhotso, following his involvement in the fatal accident of Public Service and Administration Minister, Collins Chabane.

Rikhotso, who was reportedly intoxicated when he made a U-turn in front of the minister’s Volkswagen Touareg on the N1 near Polokwane in the early hours of Sunday morning, appeared briefly in the Polokwane Magistrate's Court earlier today on three charges of culpable homicide and one of drink-driving. The case was subsequently postponed to April 6th before being rescheduled for four days later so that further investigation could be carried out. He remains in custody.

A state funeral for Chabane is expected to take place in Malamulele on Saturday.
