Cheetahs lock retires from rugby
Toyota Free State Cheetahs lock, Waltie Vermeulen, has decided to retire from the sport due to a string of injuries he has suffered in this year’s Currie Cup season.
Vermeulen will continue his career as a medical doctor in Hopetown.
Cheetahs CEO, Harold Verster, has described Vermeulen’s decision as a big blow to his team, but that they already identifying possible replacements.
"There are a number of young players, like Henco Venter, who have come to the fore," said Verster.
Vermeulen has made 44 appearances for the Free State side and has also played in 23 Super Rugby matches.
