Chiefs must stay focused - Baxter
Kaizer Chiefs coach, Stuart Baxter, has said that he is proud of his team’s winning run, but that they must keep their mental focus.
Chiefs beat Orlando Pirates 2-0 in an ABSA Premiership Soccer League (PSL) derby match at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.
Goals were scored by midfielder, Siphiwe Tshabalala in the 51st minute while striker, Siphelele Mthembu, scored the second during injury time.
Baxter has said that their victory will be “short lived” as his team will now concentrate on their next PSL match against Platinum Stars on Wednesday.
"Obviously we're very pleased with the derby win. But we have another tough game around the corner and we have to make sure we are ready for it. There is still a long way to go before we can start celebrating because nothing has been won yet," he said.
Eric Tinkler, who has taken over as Pirates coach in place of Vladimir Vermezovic, said that his team started out strong, but lacked of firepower, which allowed Chiefs to triumph.
"We have come through a very rough period of a month and a half and the morale of the team has been very low," he said.
"The confidence has been very low and it was important that we try to turn that around. Chiefs are a well-oiled machine and they have been playing well in the last couple of months.”
