Chippa get held up to scoreless draw against Bloem Celtic

BY MARC JACOBSON - OCTOBER 26, 2016

Bloemfontein Celtic managed to succumb to a goalless 0-0 draw against Chippa United in their ABSA Premiership fixture at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Chilli Boys, however, came close to nabbing a winning consolation goal in the dying stages of the match when Diamond Thopola fired an effort at the goals; but a close miss came as good as a mile for the result.

Earlier on in the first half, there was a one-on-one situation between Celtic’s Vuyisile Wana and Chippa’s keeper, Daniel Akpeyi, but the Chippa keeper impeded on a golden goal-scoring opportunity for the visitors.

The goalless draw thus seems to be a fair reflection between the two sides on the day, as each team cancelled each other out on scoring chances.

The result sees Chippa move up to sixth place on the ABSA Premiership table on eight log points, tied with Cape Town City, but with a higher goal difference of (+3) to City’s (0).

Bloemfontein Celtic is now placed 11th on the ABSA Premiership table with five log points.

Chippa will now play another home fixture at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium against the Platinum Stars at 20:00 in their sixth ABSA Premiership clash.
