Chippa United upset Pirates in PE

Chippa United caused an upset 2-0 defeat over Orlando Pirates in their second-last ABSA Premiership match at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Wednesday night.

The result meant that the Chilli Boys jump to sixth place on the Premiership standings, enhancing two log points clear of the Buccaneers on 42, while falling just two points short of the fifth-placed Black Aces.

Scorers for Chippa United were Joseph Molangoane, who scored a goal on the 29th minute to take the initial lead. Molangoane then doubled Chippa’s lead on the hour mark which provided the home side with an anticipated victory seal.

After much late attacking streaks from the Pirates, the Chilli Boys managed to hold firm on defence and prevent the visitors from executing a single score.

The commencement of the 2015/16 ABSA Premiership, shows that Chippa has been displaying an ever-increasing threat since they entered the league in the 2012/13 season. In the 2012/13 season, they positioned 15th on the overall standings, while just improving by a single position- coming 14th in the 2013/14 season.

This season they showed vast improvement, currently positioned sixth, improving by eight places, with one match to go. The Chilli Boys will play their last game against the Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium next Saturday, 21st May.
