Christopher Panayiotou trial to begin in October 2016, he is applying for bail tomorrow

MAY 16, 2016

Finally after multiple postponements, the murder case against Port Elizabeth businessman, Christopher Panayiotou, and his two co-accused, alleged triggerman, Sizwezakhe Vumazonke and Sinethemba Nemembe, was on Monday transferred from the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court to the Port Elizabeth High Court and the actual trial will begin on 3 October 2016.

The trial is expected to last for two months or until 2 December 2016.

However, Panayiotou is expected to again apply for bail at the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court on Tuesday based on new facts that his legal representatives say have emerged.

Again Panayiotou's family was at the court together with several supporters with t-shirts claiming the businessman's innocence.

Panayiotou and his co-accused stand accused of the planning and executing a faked hijacking that resulted in the death of loved Port Elizabeth teacher and Panayiotou's wife, Jayde in April last year.

It is alleged that Panayiotou paid Luthando Siyoli, 31, a bouncer at his nightclub in Algoa Park, R75 000 to hire a hitman Vumazonke, 30, for the murder.

Late in October last year, Nenembe, 28, who is related to Vumazonke, was also linked to the case.

Siyoli has since turned State witness.

To date, the case had suffered numerous postponements. Read more on the case, click HERE.
