'Classes' again suspended at NMMU as mediation continues

OCTOBER 25, 2016

The Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) says academic business will again be suspended on Tuesday to allow more time for the mediation process ordered by the Grahamstown High Court between the university and its stakeholders, who include concerned parents and student leaders.

This round of negotiations began on Monday.

"As such, classes will be suspended for a further day, in order to reach essential agreements," the NMMU said in a statement to students.

"In the meantime, the provisional academic recovery plans that are underway are being finalised. More concrete plans to complete the 2016 academic programme will be communicated to all by the end of the week.

"We sincerely apologise for sending this message so late. The management team has only just come out of the negotiations with parties involved. We appreciate your resilience and patience in this regard."
