Coega has created 47 186 construction jobs

Since inception, the Coega Industrial Development Zone has created 47 186 construction jobs and an additional 4 409 operational positions.

The Coega Development Corporation’s Annual Report, tabled in the Bhisho Legislature states that a further 50 000 indirect and induced jobs have been created since inception in 1999.

In the last financial year, 16 131 jobs were created as a result of investment promotion activities and infrastructure development projects, while SMMEs benefited from 37.92% of overall supply chain business created mainly in the construction sector and infrastructure.

The Zone now has more than 23 operational investors with 10 of these worth R1.84 billion secured in the 2013/14 financial year.

Since inception, the CDC has also trained 67 945 people and employed 159 interns in the 2013/14 financial year. - metrominutes
