Cold front expected on Friday, also see weekend weather forecast

JULY 1, 2016

According to the Eastern Cape SA Weather Forecasting office, a cold front sweeps over the Western and Eastern Cape on Friday, followed by a ridging high pressure.

"The result is a deep layer of moisture with low freezing levels passing over the Eastern Cape during Friday with showers in places and snowfall over the high terrain. From mid-morning onwards," the weather office said.

"Disruptive snowfall is expected over mountain passes in the South, Central and North Eastern parts of the province. Mountain ranges in which passes may be closed are: Outeniqua Mountains, Winterberg and the Southern Drakensberg (North Eastern corner of EC).

"Snow is also expected over the Sneeuberg, but the duration of snowfall is shorter in that area, which gives a smaller chance of passes being closed."

The SA Weather Services has also advised Small stock farmers that cold wet and windy conditions are expected by Friday afternoon and that precautions should be introduced this afternoon.

"Gale force Westerly winds  are also expected by mid-morning along the coast and adjacent interior between Plettenberg Bay and Port Alfred moderating from sunset."

Saturday 2nd July

"No rainfall is expected on Saturday except in the early hours of the morning over the extreme Eastern parts of province (East of Mthatha).

"The only area where small stock farmers need to take care on Saturday night is the North Eastern extremes of the province."
