Collegiate girl selected for national colours

Meghan Maartens, currently a grade 10 pupil at Collegiate Girls High School in Port Elizabeth, has been selected to represent the South African U17 Water Polo team.

She was selected to make her debut and represent South Africa at the CANSA ZONE IV Women’s Youth Water Polo Championships later this year.

Maartens started playing water polo when she was in grade seven at Collegiate Girls Primary School. After seeing much potential in her at the time, Eastern Province officials had reportedly urged her to play goalkeeper, which is where they saw the most promise.

Since then, a successful school career followed as Maartens represented the EP U13A, U14A, U15A and U16A teams respectively.

Recently, she represented at school senior level for the first time when she achieved selection for the EP U18 Currie Cup side.
