Con.ect promotes at Collegiate Girls High School

BY JESICA SLABBERT - JULY 22, 2016

Dressed as popular Disney Princesses Merida and Belle, Janelle Vermaak and Kayleigh Moss bring the fun of Con.ect to the girls of Collegiate High School in Port Elizabeth.

They spoke at the Collegiate High morning assembly on Friday the 22nd to promote Con.ect, which will be taking place next weekend. Janelle spoke to the students about Con.ect and gave them details about what cosplay entails and what kind of stalls and events can be expected at Con.ect this year.

“In 2015, Con.ect moved to the NMMU and attracted about 700 people. We’re expecting over 1500 attendees next weekend,” said Janelle to the students.

“Con.ect is all about connecting with your inner fan, and other fans. It’s about sharing you love, and sharing that love with like-minded people. It’s about being able to express yourself through dressing up as your favourite character, or beating your opponent in a Pokémon card tournament, or being able to see your gameplay on a massive screen while your friends cheer you on. Con.ect is all these things, and more,” she said.

To further entice and excite the students about Con.ect, flyers were handed out with a select few that had special stamps on the back. Those that had stamps were given prizes such as a Batman vs Superman keychain, a Mockingjay pin, free movie tickets at Sterkinekor and one lucky student was given a free weekend pass for Con.ect.
