Cops kidnapped on duty, stripped and one murdered

SEPTEMBER 23, 2015

Police in Durban on Tuesday afternoon launched a manhunt for three suspected cop killers after two officers were kidnapped on duty, stripped and one shot dead.

"Today, at about 12:50, Inanda police members went to the Namibia informal settlement to serve a protection order.

"Whilst at the house, it is alleged that they were overpowered by three suspects who removed their firearms and stripped them of their police uniforms before locking them in the back of the police van," the police said.

"The suspects drove to the Ngcungcwini area where they shot the police officers. One police officer died instantly and another was wounded.

"She was then airlifted to hospital for medical attention."

The suspects fled the scene on foot, leaving the police vehicle behind.

The suspects are still at large.

A case of murder and attempted murder has been opened at the Inanda police station and will be transferred to the Durban Organised Crime Unit for investigation.
