Correctional Services and brother vehemently deny Oscar Pistorius 'suicide attempt'

AUGUST 8, 2016

Contrary to world media reports, convicted murderer and former Paralympian Oscar Pistorius did not intentionally hurt himself in prison but slipped in his cell, his brother Carl tweeted on Sunday.

"I know that there are reports saying that he tried to injure himself – they [are] completely untrue and sensational,” Carl Pistorius tweeted on Sunday.

“He slipped in his cell and injured himself, nothing serious."

According to reports, two unnamed warders at the Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Centre's hospital section had said that blades had been found in Pistorius’ cell during a search on Saturday afternoon after he was rushed to hospital with minor injuries.

On Sunday, the Correctional Services Department said that Pistorius was back at the prison.

The official report is that Pistorius made a call for help after falling off his bed.

The Department also said that Pistorius himself denied speculation of a suicide attempt.

Carl Pistorius asked people not to believe the media reports, labelling them "crazy", "unreliable" and "baseless".
