Cricket: St Andrew's College vs Kingswood College

The St Andrew’s College 1st XI won the toss on Saturday vs. Kingswood and chose to bat first on Lower Field. Peter Jarvis and Chris Benjamin approached the innings in a disciplined manner and ensured College were well placed on 70/1. Kingswood responded well, remained determined in the field and had the upper hand reducing College to 160/7.

St Andrew’s College Captain, Chris Benjamin (84*) again demonstrated maturity at the crease and together with Robert Quarmby (43*) produced a superb 61 run finishing touch to the College innings which ended on 221/7 in their 50 overs. Jarod van Blerk was the pick of the Kingswood bowlers picking up 2 wickets for 30 runs.

One of his key wickets was Murray Koster in his second spell producing a sharp bouncer with the older ball which Koster edged through to the wicket keeper Nick Wilmot.

St Andrew’s College were off to a good start with the ball and Kingswood found themselves under pressure on 44/2. Liam Harrison was extremely fluent at the crease and proved to be a key wicket for College, caught at cover by Ross Vides off the bowling of Nick Poole. Tony Pedro (27) and Nick Wilmot (33) worked hard at the crease but struggled to gain enough momentum in their run chase.

St Andrew’s College dismissed Kingswood for 162 winning by 59 runs. Robert Quarmby did the damage with 3 wickets for 17 runs and was well supported by spinners Nick Poole and Simon Taylor.
