DA behind controversial #JordaanBillboard

APRIL 14, 2016

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Nelson Mandela Bay has admitted to being responsible for a controversial billboard mocking both Executive Mayor Danny Jordaan and President Jacob Zuma.

On Wednesday, Nelson Mandela Bay spokesperson Mlungisi Ncame said it would be taking legal action against those who erected the board between two DA banners in Kempston Road, which displayed the words “Danny Jordaan proudly brought to you by Jacob Zuma” in black on a green and yellow background.

Speaking in a statement, DA MPL Andrew Whitfield said the municipality’s reaction to board is proof that Jordaan would protect Zuma “by any means possible”.

“Jordaan has given no reasons for his executive instruction to remove the billboard, and has simply autocratically instructed its removal,” Whitfield said.

“The DA is therefore currently consulting our lawyers with a view to take urgent legal action against Jordaan and the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality”.

Whitfield also stated that the billboard debacle, along with the municipality rejecting the party’s application to stage a protest against Zuma’s visit outside City Hall, further indicates that the municipality under Jordaan “would rather protect the ANC and Zuma than the people against corruption”.

Addressing the media outside City Hall earlier today, DA leader Athol Trollip, when quizzed about the board, denied that the party’s had anything to do with it, merely saying, “I though it to be quite funny and very clever”.

According to reports, the board has since been taken down.
