DA Eastern Cape embarks on One Classroom One Teacher march

FEBRUARY 24, 2015

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Eastern Cape says it is planning to embark on a One Classroom One Teacher organised march to the offices of the Eastern Cape Department of Education led by Edmund van Vuuren (MPL) and MP Nosimo Balindlela on Friday.

“This will culminate with a petition handover, consisting of thousands of signatures harvested since the campaign began last year. This campaign highlighted the serious lack of teachers in the Eastern Cape which has led to parents closing the schools that their children attend.

“The Democratic Alliance Eastern Cape demand that they EVERY child in our province must enjoy their constitutional right to a basic education,” the party said.

Van Vuuren, the DA’s Shadow MEC for Education, will lead the handover to the Acting Superintendent General, Mr R. Tywakadi at the Department of Education offices in Zwelitsha Zone 6.

The march will commence at 11h00 from the public open space across the Zwelitsha Police Station in Zwelitsha Road.
