DA: Metro removed #JordaanBillboard illegally

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Nelson Mandela Bay has threatened to take legal against the Metro’s decision to remove a controversial billboard, seemingly mocking the appointment of Executive Mayor Danny Jordaan.

On the Thursday, the party confirmed it was behind the board, located between two DA banners on a building in Kempston Road, which displayed the words “Danny Jordaan, proudly brought to you by Jacob Zuma” in black on a green and yellow background.

First spotted on Wednesday, the board, which originally went unclaimed, was subsequently taken down with the DA alleging that the Metro acted illegally by instructing its removal.

“Danny Jordaan was deployed to Nelson Mandela Bay by Jacob Zuma, is an ally of Zuma and has acted this week to politically defend Zuma’s corruption by abusing his office as Mayor,” DA Eastern Cape leader Athol Trollip said in a statement.

“The timing of this unlawful and unjust ban on political freedom of speech is not a coincidence as the ANC holds a manifesto event in Nelson Mandela Bay this weekend and Jordaan works to protect the broken President”.

In a letter addressed to the Metro on Friday, the party stated it had until 17h00 to revoke the removal of the board or face legal action. It remains unclear whether the board had been restored with a reaction from the party still being awaited.
