'Dangerous' Mdantsane youths slapped with lengthy jail sentences

Three young Mdantsane men, two of them out on bail for another case, were sentenced to 10 years imprisonment each for robbery with aggravating circumstances in the Mdantsane Magistrates' Court, in East London, on Friday afternoon.

Sinethemba Sandi, 20, Masixole Kaziwa, 19 and Athule Lumkile, 19, robbed another youth that was coming from school in NU2, Mdantsane, June 2016.

"They threatned him with screw drivers and took his cellphone and memory card. A witness saw them and alerted the police that were patroling the area at the time. They were immediately arrested and charged with robbery with aggrevating circumstances," said East London police.

"Two of the accused, who are cousins, were out on bail in another robbery case, during this incident."

The community members of NU2, were in court praising the investigating officer, Sergeant Phuthumile Kwenene for a sterling job in making sure that the trio are behind the bars.
