Dangerous suspects re-arrested after escaping from Queenstown police custody

Two of five prisoners, who escaped from Queenstown police holding cells were re-arrested on Sunday, Eastern Cape police said on Monday.

"The prisoners escaped on Saturday, at about 17h30, while the police officers were busy reporting on and off duty," said police spokesperson, Lt Namhla Mdleleni.

She said that the suspects had been arrested for for possession of unlicensed fire-arms.

Athenkosi Nqabisa (26) and Godfrey Beets (22) were re-arrested while Kholekile Gqomfa (40 years), Malusi Nobopha (22) and Mark Mantirimani (28) are still at large, said Lt Mdleleni. 

"Additional charges of escaping from lawful custody have been added to the existing charges of the prisoners and are under investigation.
