Decomposed body found in Bethelsdorp identified

Port Elizabeth police on Wednesday said that they had identified the decomposed body of a woman found in the dense bushes near Damaskus farm in Booysens Park, Bethelsdorp, on Monday, at about 11:00am, as that of 17-year-old, Shannon Fourie.

She was reported missing in December.

According to the police, the owner of a dog found his hound feeding on the remains of a human hand.

"The owner summoned police and the rest of the torso was found," said Colonel Priscilla Naidu.

"The identity of the woman is unknown. She was clad in black jeans.”

The investigating officer told AlgoaFM News that Shannon was identified by her shoes and ring. He added that a DNA test is also still to be conducted.

A case of murder is now under investigation following the discovery and identification of the body.
