The Hawks Serious Corruption Unit together with Crime Intelligence over the weekend arrested a 31-year-old Admin Officer at the Free State Department of Public Works Supply Chain Management office in Bloemfontein for alleged corruption.

According to Hawks spokesperson, Captain S’fiso Nyakane, the accused, Lefa Melesi, who was arrested on Sunday, allegedly solicited a bribe of R80 000 from a service provider for the tender that was awarded by the Department on the 21 May 2017, to fix a roofing at Goedemoed Correctional Service.

"He alleged that he played a vital role in the appointment of the service provider being awarded the tender and the service provider should reimburse him with R80 000," described Cpt Nyakane.

"The matter was reported to the Hawks, who subsequently set a trap which led to his arrest upon receiving the bribe at Showgate Shopping Complex in Bloemfontein.
