Department of Social Development to Hold a Social Service Professional Prayer

The Department of Social Development in a quest to revive the coping, emotional and spirituals beings of social service professionals will hold a social service professional prayer at EN Baartman Methodist Church (Vergenoeg) in East London on 06 November 2014 at 08h30.

The Department of Social Development has employed a cadre of social service professionals that are mandated amongst other things to create a safety net for the poor, vulnerable and marginalized. It is against this background that the Honorable MEC Nancy Sihlwayi and the management have resolved that amongst the interventions that can be initiated, is to hold a prayer services because the majority of our employees believe in the power of prayer. They have also found it imperative that an intervention to revive the coping, emotional and spiritual being of social service professionals is essential for their continuous improvement, growth and development.

The objectives of the prayer is to:

  • Spiritually revive the coping abilities of these professionals
  • Spiritually reconnect the practitioners with the almighty
  • Spiritually recommit professionals with the communities they serve

The session will unfold in three ways wherein the professionals will share the kind of challenges that emotionally drain them in their quest to reach out to their clients. Secondly a seasoned veteran professional will articulate on the social ills that befall the professionals at the workplace followed by a prayer for all these social ills that will seek to request divine intervention in the life spaces of the professionals of the Department.
