APRIL 25, 2016

The Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, John Jeffery MP, interacted with civil society organisations (CSOs) during a Socio Economic Justice for All (SEJA) Capacity Building Workshop on Monday.

According to the Department; "The main aim of the workshop was a platform to educate civil society organisation about SEJA programme and how to apply for funds which will make their work effective. The SEJA programme is informed by the National Development Plan which calls on government to work with relevant structures to create a more informed citizenry."

The Deputy Minister spoke of the significance of the programme in providing grants to CSOs to promote awareness and access to socio economic rights amongst vulnerable and marginalised.

“The target is to fund a minimum of 270 CSOs. We have funded 150 CSOs covering all vulnerable groups. We have also funded CSOs for anti-xenophobia campaigns.”

The workshop was also attended by Mr. Hanif Vally, from the Foundation for Human Rights and various CSOs.
