Police in Despatch have launched an investigation after six armed men allegedly robbed a supermarket in Nkonjane Street, Khayamnandi, in Despatch, on Monday afternoon.

It is alleged that of the six men that stormed into the supermarket, one had a firearm while the others had knives and other unknown dangerous weapons.

“The suspect with firearm threatened to shoot the owner and his shop assistant, while others ransacked the supermarket,” said police spokesperson, Sargent Majola Nkohli.

He added that, the suspects stole groceries, clothing items, airtime vouchers and undisclosed amount of cash and fled on foot.

Police have since appealed to local residents, who might have knowledge of the suspects, to come forward and assist in their investigation.

“Anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects is urged to contact crime stop or the nearest police station,” said Sergeant Nkohli.
