Despite losing, St Andrews College put up great opposition in weekend Cricket Club tournament
The St Andrews College 1st XI cricket team were involved in two thrilling matches over the weekend. The College lost by 2 runs in their late afternoon run chase vs Kingswood in subcontinent type batting conditions.
Peter Jarvis top scored for College with 40 runs, Simon Taylor and Ross Ferguson picked up 3 wickets each.
According to Cherié Wille, Communications Officer at St Andrews College, "The 40 over match vs. Grey College (Bloem) produced a scintillating final over finish resulting in a tied match. Chris Benjamin lead from the front with a disciplined 84*, however Grey looked well in control with their run chase until Bruce Phillips produced a fine spell of reverse swing bowling picking up 3/19 setting up a final over finish in which Robert Quarmby held is nerve.
"Thanks very much too all the staff and boys who turned out to support the team."
She said that the Cricket Club had some “uncomfortable” results over the weekend and "their opposition must be commended for their determination and attitude on a weekend when perhaps on some occasions, our visitors wanted it more than us".
2nd XI Lost by 5 wickets vs. Kingswood and by 3 wickets vs. Grey Bloem (Luke Hobson 3/10).
3rd Won by 7 wickets vs. Kingswood (Bradley Van Heerden 3/38, James MacGregor 5/28).

4th XI Won by 67 runs vs. Kingswood.
5th XI Won by 36 runs vs. Kingswood (Aidan Froneman 63*).
6th XI vs. Lost by 4 wickets vs. Tiger Titans CC (Andrew Steyn 44, Andile Makake 3/17).
7th XI vs. Won by 10 runs vs. Tiger Titans CC (Brad Landrey 39, Andile Makake 4/9).
Colts A XI Lost by 46 runs vs. Kingswood College (Callum Francis 47) and Lost by 101 runs vs. Grey Bloem.
Colts B XI Lost by 104 runs vs. PJ Olivier (Guy Murray 5/79, Peter Voges 46).
Colts C XI Lost by 35 runs vs. Kingswood College U15B XI (Priyank Patel 5/27).
Junior Colts A XI Won by 129 runs vs. Kingswood College (James Sparks 63, Nick Barlow 59, Kirk Nevay 52*) and Lost by 1 wicket vs. Grey Bloem (Kirk Nevay 4/14).
Junior Colts B XI vs. Kingswood College (Mixed teams) Jacques Ménage 108 & Liyama Dotwana 87 lead their team to victory.
