Detectives arrest suspected Centane rapist and murderer in Cape Town

Butterworth Detectives on Tuesday said that last week Friday they arrested a 40 year-old suspect for allegedly raping and murdering of a 55 year-old woman in February this year. 

The suspect appeared before the Centane Magistrate Court on Monday and was not asked to plead. His case was remanded to Tuesday, 5 April for further investigation. He remains in custody.

"It alleged that both the suspect and the deceased were from tavern when the incident happened where the deceased was raped and murdered by the suspect on Thursday, 4 February, at about 00:30, at Mnyameni Village in Sigangala Location, Centane," said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson  Manatha.

The case was reported to Centane Police and the Butterworth Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit later arrested the suspect on Friday at Lower Cross Road in Cape Town.

"The suspect arrested and charged with rape and murder," said Cpt Manatha.

"The deceased was identified as Ntombizilungile Mluma."
