Dragon’s Den Winner Announced

NOVEMBER 18, 2015

In run up to the 2015 AHi National Congress hosted in George, the George Business Chamber, supported by the George Municipality, provided high level Entrepreneurship training to three groups of participants - one group from Youth Cafe, a group from Thembalethu, in collaboration with the Thembalethu Business Partnership, and a regional group which included participants from Knysna, Mosselbay, Kannaland, Uniondale and Haarlem.

The training culminated in a Dragon's Den competition which took place during the AHi Congress week 6 – 9 October 2015 and the top three participants were awarded cash prizes, sponsored by the George Municipality.

The group gathered last week Thursday for a feedback and mentorship session, to discuss how their business ideas have progressed.

Portfolio Councillor for Strategic Services and Deputy Mayor Daniel Maritz awarded the participants their certificates of completion for the training course as well as providing them with a motivational word.

The atmosphere was very positive, with the participants clearly having developed strong friendships over the training period.

This is the start of future business networks that will support growth across the Garden Route.

The variety of business ideas presented was astonishing, and many of the participants have started applying what they learnt during the training in their start up businesses. A mentorship network will be created to support this group as they grow their businesses and following the success of this project. The George Municipality is already working to host the next round of training and a similar Dragon's Den in early 2016.
