DSG Head girl awarded 100 caps for Hockey

MARCH 14, 2016

The 1st Hockey team at Grahamstown's DSG travelled to East London on Friday to take part in the annual Greg Beling Hockey Festival.

DSG Head girl, Sandisiwe Tabata played in her 100th match for the DSG 1st team at the Festival, in a match against Stirling High School.

"What made the match all the more special was that Sandisiwe, who hails from East London, was at Stirling Primary School, where she started her hockey career, and was head girl in Grade 7, before moving to DSG," described Cherié Wille, Communications Officer at the school.

"Sandisiwe has had an amazing career to date, and she departs today to join up with the South African U21 Hockey Team which is travelling to Namibia tomorrow to take part in the Junior World Cup Qualifier later this month. Playing her 100th match for the DSG 1st team is yet another highly impressive and commendable achievement for this exceptionally talented player."

The DSG 1st team had a great start to their season in East London, as they look to meet the high expectations placed on them, after finishing the 2015 season ranked 3rd in the country.

"DSG returned to Grahamstown unbeaten from the weekend as they picked up wins against Clarendon 2-1, Stirling 3-0, Hudson 3-0, and drew with Voortrekker (Bethlehem) 1-1," Wille said.
