Dutywa man expected in court for murdering teenager at local tarven

A 24 year-old Dutywa man is expected to appear before the Dutywa Magistrate Court on Monday for the murder of a 17 year-old teenage boy on Saturday in a tavern at Ngxakaxha Village, Zimpuku Locality, Dutywa.

It is alleged that both the deceased and the suspect were at the tavern when the incident happened, at about 02:30 in the morning.

“The deceased was struck with a stick on his upper body, he was taken to his home where he died while waiting for the ambulance,” said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

He added that the identity of the deceased will be withheld until all his next of kin are informed of his death.

In an unrelated incident, Msobomvu police arrested a 35 year-old foreign national for possession of an unlicensed firearm, a pistol with five rounds of ammunition, on Sunday, at about 20:30, at Cuba Township, Butterworth.                                                      

According to the police, the arrest came after police received valuable information about a suspect that was in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The man will appear before the Butterworth Magistrate’s Court on Monday facing charges of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
