Dutywa man gets seven years behind bars for murder

A 24 year-old Dutywa man, Mandisi Magqazana, will spend the next seven years in prison after he was found guilty of the murder of 27 year-old Nokwanda Sikade by the Butterworth Regional Magistrate Court, Eastern Cape police said on Tuesday.

It is alleged that on 4 September 2013 at about 17:50 at Laza Location Nqabarha Village Dutywa, the deceased teased and joked with the accused that she was going to slap him.

The accused drew his knife and stabbed the victim once on the upper body and the deceased died instantly.

Magqazana was then arrested and charged for murder by the Dutywa Police detectives.

He was tried and convicted by the Butterworth Regional Magistrate Court and last Thursday.

Butterworth Cluster Commander, Brigadier Mbeko Sibidla welcomed the sentence and vowed that the SAPS will do everything at their disposal to fight against the abuse of women and children.
