East London man behind bars for death threats against homeless

East London police have arrested a 38-year old man alleged to have made death threats against a number of homeless people.

In a statement, police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mtati Tana said the man was taken into custody shortly after 09h00 yesterday, following his alleged involvement in an argument with a homeless man while collecting fruit and vegetables for local hawkers in the town’s central business district.

“This arrest comes after he threatened other homeless people that he’s going to kill them as he has done so to others‚” a police source told the Daily Dispatch.

It also believed that the man is being investigated on suspicion of having links to the killing of eight destitute people in the town’s CBD since the start of the year.
