SAPS Cambridge, with the support of Eastern Cape Provincial Traffic, conducted operations as part of  'Operation Paseka' over the past weekend, concentrating mainly on road safety, drug-related offences, drunken driving and dangerous weapons.

"Over six hundred vehicles were searched; 27 issued with fines of about R16 500 in value; five warrants of arrest were issued; three cars suspended from the road; three were arrested for possession of drugs (dagga) and 28 were arrested for drunken driving," said police spokesperson, Captain Mluleki Mbi.

"It was clear that the community welcomed these operations and hailed the excellent work and dedication of the team."

Cpt Mbi said that the SAPS will continue to participate in endevours aimed at addressing the causes of crime, preventing all acts, which may threaten the safety and security of the community and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
