Eastern Cape Department of Transport checks 32 385 vehicles over festive season

DECEMBER 23, 2014

The Eastern Cape Department of Transport has stopped and checked 32 385 vehicles, issued 3 527 notices, discontinued 60 vehicles and 841 Public Transportation Notices were issued since the beginning of December.

The department said it will deploy more than 1 000 traffic officers along the province’s most notorious roads on a 24-hour basis to address carnage on the roads this festive season.

The province’s law enforcement campaign for the 2014/15 Festive Season Arrive Alive is underway and has yielded positive outcomes so far.

Provincial officers will monitor the N2, N6 and R61 routes which have been the scene for most of the road carnages in the past. – SAnews.gov.za
