Eastern Cape has new Provincial Head of HAWKS

JANUARY 13, 2016

The National Head of DPCI, Lieutenant General BM Ntlemeza, on Wednesday morning visited the  Eastern Cape Provincial SAPS Headquarters to announce and introduce the newly-appointed Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks), Major General Nyameko Meshack Nogwanya, to the SAPS Management, and all DPCI Commanders and members in the Province.

The National Head of DPCI was accompanied during this visit to the Province by the Deputy National Head of DPCI, Lieutenant General Yolisa Matakata.

The appointment is in line with the re-alignment of the DPCI in terms of the new approved structures in all nine Provinces. Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Celiwe Binta welcomed the appointment of Major General Nogwanya to the new post with great appreciation.

“I believe this appointment will certainly add value in the Province in the fight against crime, especially Organised Crime involving Drugs and Firearms as well as serious corruption, e.g. tender fraud,” said Lieutenant  General Binta earlier today.

Major General Nogwanya is not new in the SAPS and the crime fighting environment.  He joined SAPS in Mthatha 23 years ago as a Legal Officer.

He previously worked as a Senior Legal Officer in Limpopo and  Mpumalanga provinces  as a Colonel, Brigadier and Major General.

At the time of his appointment he was a Provincial Head of Legal Services in Mpumalanga at the level of  a Major General.  He also acted as a Provincial Commissioner of Mpumalanga for a long time when the former Provincial Commissioner retired.

Major General Nogwanya has vast experience in policing matters particularly in operations and support environment.
