Eastern Cape Health Department warns of scam

JULY 31, 2015

The Eastern Cape health department has distanced itself from a scam where prospective victims are told to pay fees for a job within its offices.

A manager in Empilweni Hospital was notified of the scam earlier this week with the sting also circulating on social media, department spokesperson Sizwe Kupelo said on Friday.

A prospective victim would receive a message from a "Sister Parks" stating their application for a post at the department had been successful.

They would then be instructed to deposit R150 into the Standard Bank account of a "Dr Marcus" with payment required as soon as possible. It was also demanded they fax the payment skip with an ID copy to a Despatch number.

Kupelo said the department was not connected to the scam in anyway.
