Eastern Cape’s disadvantaged farmers get chance to showcase talent

AUGUST 23, 2016

Farmers in the Eastern Cape will have a chance to show that they can match their counterparts around the country in the Toyota New Harvest of the Year competition.

Aimed at historically disadvantaged farmers, the competition winner will be announced at a function in Gauteng on October 27.

"In a region with a rich agricultural history, Eastern Cape farmers will be eager to prove themselves on a national stage," says, farmers association, Agri EC.

"The New Harvest of the Year Competition aims to reward farmers who have overcome obstacles and to credit organisations that have aided this process.

"Entries for the event are open until next week. Companies and organisations that have assisted the development of a new farmer can enter this individual into the competition."

It said that all entrants must be from a historically disadvantaged background and have operated a farm for a minimum of five years.

The winner stands a chance to win a brand new bakkie and a cash prize is on offer for the entering organisation.
