Eastern Cape SAPS hosting sports day for employees living with disabilities

Eastern Cape police will be hosting a sports day for employees living with disabilities on Wednesday.

"The games are organised by the Employee Health and Wellness as part of ensuring that all SAPS members and employees, including those with living disabilities adhere to a healthy lifestyle by participating in sports and other physical exercises," the police described.

"The purpose of the event is to raise awareness about disability, expose members to different sporting codes which people with living with disabilities participate in and encouraging integration of all members."

The program will start with motivational speeches from various speakers and a keynote address by Deputy Commissioner, Human Resource Management, Maj Gen Nomalady Dlani. And the games will resume from 11:00 until 16:00 and will kick off with a fun walk from Eastern Cape Provincial Head Office to the robots at Zwelitsha and back.

Members will compete on the following sporting codes:

· Wheelchair rugby

· Wheelchair basket ball

· Wheelchair tennis ball

· Wheelchair volley ball

· Goal ball

· And Indigenous games.

The event will take place as follows:
Place : SAPS Provincial Head Office, Zwelitsha Road, Zwelitsha

Date : 2nd November 2016.

According to the organiser, Lieutenant Colonel Amanda Nqumashe who is a Quality of life Manager responsible for HIV/Aids and Disability, “A lot of people tend to think that disability means “Inability” and through this initiative EHW wants to change such attitudes while also promoting a positive, healthy relationship between internal stakeholders within the organisation.”
