Eastern Cape Social Development Hosts Population Planning Conference

The Eastern Cape Department of Social Development will host the Population Association of South Africa (PASA) conference on 1-2 October 2014 at the East London Health Resource Centre (near Frere Hospital) at 10H00.

PASA is a scientific regional body which bring together population and demography scientists and practitioners, policy makers and development specialists in the Southern Africa region and beyond, to discuss and address population and development issues.

The association has an annual conference which is held in different Provinces.

“This year as a department that is changing the lives of the people of this Province, we are hosting the conference,” the Provincial Department of Social Development in a statement.

“Research on Population dynamics, assists government in policy formulation, and it also enables specific interventions to be tailor made for specific people based on their needs and challenges.

“The main objective of this conference then, is to continuously create and sustain strategic partnerships with regional institutions, particularly academic institutions and other population agencies and sustain think tanks in discussing population and development issues in Southern Africa.”

The PASA conference, which will be under the theme; “The Demographic Dividend and Population Dynamics in a Changing African Society”, is expected to attract Demographers, Researchers, Population Scientists, Academics, Policy makers in Government, Activists from Non-Governmental Organizations and Students involved in the areas of Population and Development and other academic disciplines.
