EC police to follow strong leads on Mthatha assassin

A trail of investigation has been taking place by Eastern Cape police for an alleged assassination that took place outside Mthatha on Tuesday night.

A clue showed that a taxi driver was allegedly assassinated from inside the passenger vehicle, as a fired 9mm pistol cartridge was found on the inside. Police spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Mzukisi Fatyela, said in a statement that the incident occurred roughly after nine PM on the road between Mthatha and Libode.

No arrests have been made as of yet, but Fatyela says they are following very promising leads.

He added, that in addition, two ATM machines were bomb targets in the early hours of Wednesday morning at Nhlaza on the R-61 towards Port St. Johns. Due to extensive damage, Fatyela said that it is not clear whether money was stolen or not.
